Understanding the Difference Between 2D ~ 3D ~ 4D and HD

Understanding the Difference Between 2D ~ 3D ~ 4D and HD

2D Ultrasound

A 2D ultrasound transmits traditional black & white pictures. These pictures show two-dimensional outlines and profiles of your baby. This specific ultrasound is most often used to listen to the heartbeat of the fetus and determine gender.

3D Ultrasound

A 3D ultrasound captures three-dimensional images of your baby. The transducer (sound wave transmitter) sends out sound waves from numerous directions and as a result, transmits realistic three-dimensional still shot images.

4D Ultrasound

A 4D ultrasound utilizes the same technology as 3D ultrasounds but introduces the element of motion. This technology allows you to take a look in the womb to see the movement of the fetus. If your baby is feeling like giving you a show, you may be able to see things like your baby yawning, smiling or sucking their thumb!

Standard 3DStunning HD

HD Ultrasound

HD Ultrasound is cutting edge technology that presents 3D images of your baby in stunning high definition, giving you an incredibly detailed view of what your baby looks like.

Choose the proper developmental stage to schedule your 3D/4D/HD Ultrasound Experience

For moms who visit us for a Gender Reveal visit ( which includes a 3D/4D sneak peek) between 13 and 17 weeks, we can typically see the baby’s full body.

Our 3D/4D/HD Ultrasound Experiences can be scheduled between 26 – 36 weeks. At 26 weeks we will usually see about half of your baby’s body. Around 32 weeks and beyond, we will only be able to see their face.

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

Our technology uses sound-waves to produce the image of your baby. If there is no separation between your baby and the amniotic wall, then our machines (as advanced as they are) cannot produce a clear image. This is because your baby’s features are merged with the outer wall and/or placenta.

Drinking six or more bottles of water daily the week before your visit is essential to improve the image quality we can achieve.

Bonus Tip – It takes time for your body to hydrate. Drinking a whole bunch of water the day before or morning of your visit will not take the place of not hydrating the week before. If you aren’t sure if you’re hydrated enough, we recommend delaying your visit.
